Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from vineyards in the municipality of Roccastrada. The Rocca di Montemassi estate lies in the Tuscan foothills of Montemassi, between the Tyrrhenian Sea coast and the Metalliferous Hills. Its landscape includes vineyards, pine trees and olive trees. The 430 ha estate has 160 ha under vine.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in the second half of September. The must ferments in stainless-steel tanks at 18–22 °C.
Ageing
The wine rests on its lees for six months.
Tasting profile
The nose is elegant, with inviting fruit notes. Lees ageing brings notes of toast and hazelnut, together with greater depth and complexity. The finish is silky and persistent.
Label / history
The name “Calasole” means sunset or evening glow. It is also a local term for the gentle breeze that passes through the hills of Maremma at the end of the day. The Rocca di Montemassi estate has belonged to the Zonin family since 1999.
