Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown in the municipality of Roccastrada. The Rocca di Montemassi estate lies at the foot of Montemassi, between the Tyrrhenian coast and the foothills of the metal-bearing hills. It covers 430 ha, of which 160 ha are vineyards, and is surrounded by pine and olive trees.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested mechanically, then gently crushed and destemmed. The must ferments in vertical bioreactors for 20 days at 28 °C and subsequently undergoes malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in 350-litre French oak barrels, followed by three months in bottle.
