Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow near the Tyrrhenian coast, in the foothills of Montemassi between the coast and the Metalliferous Hills. The vineyards are planted mainly on alluvial soils, which support grapes with power and energy. The estate covers 430 ha, including 160 ha of vineyards, and is surrounded by pine and olive trees.
Grapes
Syrah contributes balance, juiciness and brightness to the blend. Sangiovese provides its Tuscan character.
Vinification
Freshly harvested grapes are gently pressed. The must ferments in stainless-steel tanks at 15–18 °C.
Ageing
The wine rests on its lees for five months.
Tasting profile
Balanced, juicy and bright, with notes of black berries, dried cherry, black tea, cedar and sage.
Label / history
The Zonin family has owned Rocca di Montemassi since 1999. The winery was carefully restored. The 2018 vintage received a “Commended” distinction at the 2019 International Wine Challenge.
