Spain Guide 2026
Decanter unveiled its Spain Guide 2026 with an introduction by Spain Editor Ines Salpico and a profile of four contributors. Salpico also reports on recent developments and openings in Spain, as well as the deaths of two prominent wine-industry figures.1
The guide’s panel tasting of premium Spanish white wines assessed 177 wines, with 21 receiving an Outstanding rating.1
Its regional and producer coverage includes Beth Willard’s report on wines made near Madrid, Salpico’s examination of Ribera del Duero producer Vega Sicilia’s plans, Sarah Jane Evans MW’s account of Corpinnat and its estates’ departure from the Cava DO, and Shawn Hennessey’s travel guide to Cantabria.1
Further articles include winemaker Daniel Landi’s case for a preventive response to growing rural wildfire risks; Noah Chichester’s guide to Spanish Christmas and New Year traditions with wine pairings; Hennessey’s profiles of five Maestros Cortadores de Jamón; and Jonathan Eichholz MS’s playlist pairing music with 12 important grape varieties.1
Decanter’s November 2026 issue
The guide accompanies Decanter’s November 2026 issue. The magazine includes Andy Howard MW’s selection of 50 Bordeaux buys priced below £25; Gwendolyn Elliott on Washington State white wines; Malu Lambert on South Africa’s South Coast; and Matt Walls’s 25 recommendations for admirers of northern Rhône reds, including three wines not made from Syrah.1
Other features examine Champagne’s response to climate change, the Haute Vallée de l’Orb IGP—created in 2009—and wine pairings for spiced dishes. The buying guide reports 3 Outstanding wines among 142 Italian indigenous whites and 5 Outstanding wines among 85 wines made from disease-resistant Piwi varieties. It also covers Ribolla Gialla and Rebula, 25 weekday wines priced at £30 or less, 7 weekend selections priced from £30 to £60, and medal-winning Champagne from the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards.1
Editor Amy Wislocki’s featured wine is Leonardslee Classic Cuvée MV, a new multi-vintage sparkling wine from an estate near Horsham in West Sussex. Priced at £39.50, it comprises 48% Chardonnay, 46% Pinot Noir and 6% Meunier; Wislocki describes crisp acidity alongside orchard-fruit and spice characteristics.1
