Nera dei Baisi: care and research return a wine to its land

Nera dei Baisi survived in a few forgotten rows on a terrace beside an old mountain house in the small Baisi district of Terragnolo. The unidentified red variety was located, studied and preserved through Albino Armani’s recovery programme.

Promising early trials with maturation in wood encouraged a permanent planting of approximately 0.5 ha. The work led to official recognition of the variety, whose resistance to fungal disease was also highlighted. The new vineyard now yields about 2,000 bottles each year, numbered by hand.

The project also reconnected the grape with Terragnolo. During the warmer season, weekend walks organized with the local tourism bodies conclude with traditional food and a glass made from the recovered variety.
