The challenges facing Pinot Grigio in 2025

The third congress of the Consorzio DOC delle Venezie brought institutions, producers and the press together at Castello di Udine. The denomination encompassed more than 27,000 ha, 6,141 growers, 371 bottling companies and approximately 230 million bottles annually across Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trentino.

As consortium president, Albino Armani argued that protection bodies must broaden their work beyond traditional responsibilities. His priorities included care for the territory, environmental sustainability and the development of food-and-wine tourism.

Director Stefano Sequino discussed the potential environmental value of resistant varieties in appellation wines and the legal changes required in Italy. Other speakers considered producer income, market stabilization, the expanded role of protection consortia, unfair commercial practices, rising costs, declining margins and the impact of extreme weather on agriculture and insurance.
