New cru of Barbaresco: Montersino

The Montersino vineyard lies on the hills of San Rocco Seno d’Elvio near Treiso, with full southern exposure, greater elevation than Barbaresco and calcareous-clay soils containing sand and sandstone. Until 2011 its fruit entered the classic Barbaresco. During the 2012 harvest, Angelo and Carlo judged that the vineyard’s maturity and power warranted separate vinification. The decision was intended to demonstrate how individual site characteristics shape Nebbiolo. Production was limited to 2,600 bottles, matured for two years in one large German and Austrian oak cask.
