A glimpse at the 2024 season: adaptation amid climate variability and agronomic innovation

The season began with a relatively mild and moderately wet winter. Budding started normally in April before minimum temperatures around 5°C slowed growth in the middle of the month. Rainfall continued through June and exceeded seasonal averages.

Temperatures and evapotranspiration rose sharply in early July. Vineyard-floor, canopy and water management limited stress and disease. September then brought milder weather and day–night differences of as much as 15°C, supporting acidity and aroma formation. Timely picking limited the effects of late rain.

Weather stations and humidity and temperature sensors enabled more precise plant protection, irrigation and infection prevention. Moving part of production toward ventilated, well-drained hillside sites also proved important. Corvinone ripened over an extended period, while Corvina showed strong adaptability.

Turbiana harvest in Lugana began on 23 September and lasted about two weeks. Villa Cavarena and Marezzane were harvested from 16 September to 1 October; Monte Dei Galli, La Grola and La Poja followed from 30 September to 15 October.
