The cathedral of Orvieto in a glass of wine

Cantina Altarocca’s first wine names honour the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in Orvieto. Arcosesto refers to the round arches repeated across the cathedral’s façade and central nave. Librato evokes architectural and stylistic balance. Albaco derives from the Latin albus, recalling the white travertine used on the exterior and in structural elements.

Lavico connects the dark basalt contrasting with the cathedral’s travertine to the volcanic ground beneath the estate vineyards. Bianco d’Altarocca and Rosso d’Altarocca then established the estate-name identities. Rilievo returned to the cathedral theme through the numerous bas-reliefs decorating its façade.
