The new Ampeleia labels: four lines telling the story of our vineyards in Tuscany Alta Maremma
The labels were renewed to make Ampeleia’s present identity easier to read. Four horizontal lines act as a compact map of the vineyard landscape, rising from the low maritime fields at Cannucceto through La Pieve and Sassoforte to the high, wooded amphitheatre of La Rocca.
Cannucceto represents clay, silt, marine fossils and the influence of the sea. La Pieve brings clay, pebbles, conglomerates and sand, together with Alicante Nero’s renewed place in Maremma. Sassoforte expresses rhyolite, grey clay and Mediterranean scrub. La Rocca represents galestro, palombino, clay, constant wind and large day-to-night temperature changes.
Managing these separated areas is demanding, but their differences in temperature, ventilation, protection, soils and ripening patterns allow the wines to express greater depth and a more detailed sense of place.
