Harvest 2017

Spring 2017 was warm and dry. Apiro experienced hail in April, followed about a week later by an intense frost that caused substantial damage to the shoots. Early summer brought rising temperatures, rainy days, thermal fluctuations, and further hail. Temperatures then climbed above seasonal averages in July and August, producing unusually early grape maturity.

Harvest began on 4 September with must weights of 18–19° Babo. From 11 September, rain lowered both daytime and nighttime temperatures. The resulting day–night differences helped the estate bring grapes into the cellar with good acidity and excellent sugar maturity.

Picking ended on 15 September. Despite the discouraging outlook created by the April frost, summer conditions supported strong grape quality. Quantity was markedly lower, with production 35% below the annual average.
