About this wine
Profile
50&50 is a wine sprung from the friendship which binds the owners of Avignonesi in Montepulciano and Capannelle in Chianti Classico. The first vintage of 50&50 was 1988 and it was born as an experiment, almost by chance: during a jovial dinner the former owners of the two wineries started to compare, mix and match their wines, and came up with the even blend of 50% Sangiovese and 50% Merlot, that we know today. They had given birth to something truly unique.
2021 vintage
Temperatures in early spring 2021 were higher than usual. However, no one would have expected a winter weather episode in April; frost causes substantial damage affecting the yield but, luckily, not the quality. A mild summer with generally cool temperatures mitigated the lack of rainfall. The abundant water reserves stored in the soil during the winter allowed the grapes to ripen properly.

Tasting notes
In the glass, 50&50 shows a deep, dark ruby-red colour with vibrant purple hues. On the nose, it offers aromas of small red fruits, blackcurrant, black cherry and blueberry, which then give way to harmonious nuances of undergrowth and sweet spices such as vanilla and coffee roast. On the palate, it is gratifying, with sweetness and tannins blending perfectly in a broad, elegant, decisive and rounded tasting symphony. Ripe fruit and spices return, and on the aftertaste its balsamic character emerges, enriched with notes of mint and thyme. The finish is long, and the palate is caressed by a silky, smooth tannic texture. 2021 2020 2019

The heavy rains after flowering caused some difficulties that our team was however able to manage excellently. Thanks to the great water retention capacity of our clay-rich soils, the bunches have easily overcome the summer heat and preserved their acidity. TASTING NOTES 50&50 has a deep, dark ruby red color with purple hues. In the nose it shows a fragrance of small red fruits, black currant, black cherry and blueberry which then leave room for harmonious nuances of undergrowth and sweet spices such as vanilla and cinnamon. Ripe fruit and spices return and the aftertaste releases its balsamic mint and thyme. 2020
..................................................................................................................................................... Warm weather albeit not dry, was the background to a great production in terms of quantity and quality for the Merlot. With just the right amount of rainfall, work in the vineyards never stopped and great attention was placed to the grapes to balance warmth, rain and soil. For Sangiovese, the harvest was very good and in line with the characteristics of traditional vintages, with excellent phenolic and physiological ripening.
