The twentieth harvest
Strong winds in May and significant June rain accompanied by morning humidity caused downy mildew to develop quickly. Production declined by 40%, although a cool spring and contrasting rainfall produced excellent vigour and vegetative growth. Harvest began in late August with Moscato di Alessandria and Albanello, continued through Grillo from Santa Margherita and ended with Frappato and Nero d’Avola. Concentrated grapes reached the sorting table, permitting shorter macerations and low extraction. A young international team took part in the estate’s twentieth harvest, completing two decades that began with the first hectare at Fossa di Lupo.
