About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
La Chiusa lies in the Pettineo contrada at 217 m above sea level. Its soil consists of 60 cm of red sand over tuff. The vineyard is described as approximately 60 years old, while the technical data give an average vine age of 70 years. Its old vines were originally trained as alberello; a previous owner converted them to an espalier system by guiding the plants through the trellises, and some have developed monumental forms. The present training system is double spurred cordon, at a density of 6,500 vines per hectare. Farming is biodynamic and certified organic, without chemical intervention.
