About this wine

First produced in 1888 — the first Brunello di Montalcino — and released only 40 times since; every vintage is extremely limited. Made exclusively from estate vines more than 25 years old, fermented in cement vats with indigenous yeasts and aged in large Slavonian oak casks. The bottles rest "naked" in the dark La Storica cellar with a drop of beeswax over the cork, are labelled with the original vintage label only at release, numbered individually on the "lunetta" neck label, and carry a hand-written departure date. Older bottles can be topped up at the estate (ricolmatura) with a certificate stating the reconditioning date. The site's own presentation of the 2016 calls it "a Riserva with a strong impact… the result of one of the most acclaimed vintages in recent years".
