Dietro una bottiglia: il viaggio del vetro
The bottle is treated as the wine’s home from bottling until service, combining conservation, design and identity. Glass remains suitable because it is inert: it neither absorbs aromas nor releases substances into the wine. Dark-green glass protects ageing wines from ultraviolet light and premature aromatic deterioration.
Glass can be recycled repeatedly without losing quality, and new bottles can incorporate recycled material while reducing raw-material and energy use. The concave punt has structural functions: in traditional-method sparkling bottles it helps distribute internal pressure that can exceed 6 bar, while in still-wine bottles it improves resistance, stability and handling.
Bottle proportions and shapes also carry historical and regional associations and can make a winery recognizable before the label is read.
