About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from Cantele vineyards near Guagnano, Sava and San Pietro Vernotico. The Salento peninsula lies between the Adriatic and Ionian seas; fresh maritime air and the area's mild climate assist ripening. The local soils are suitable for grape cultivation.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in mid-September and remain on their skins for 12–24 hours to extract colour and aroma. After pressing, the juice is chilled and settled, then fermented in stainless-steel tanks at 15 °C.
Tasting profile
Refreshing in style.
Label / history
Giovanni Battista Cantele, a wine merchant, and his wife, Teresa Manara, established Cantele in the 1950s and built a winery in Salento, Puglia. Their sons joined the family business in 1979 after studying at the Viticulture Research Center in Conegliano. A new winery opened in 2003. The family now owns 50 ha of vineyards and manages a further 150 ha for other owners. Umberto Cantele, the founders’ grandson, runs the winery with his cousins and sister. Annual production is approximately two million bottles.
