Casisano, the realization of a dream

The Tommasi family’s interest in Montalcino predated the 2015 acquisition by decades. After first investing in the Tuscan Maremma and conducting a long search, the fourth generation selected Podere Casisano on a natural terrace overlooking south-eastern Montalcino.

The 53 ha estate combined 22 ha of vineyards, olive groves and old woodland. Its sandstone, galestro, stony, clay-rich and volcanic-tuff soils were complemented by a dry, ventilated microclimate and substantial temperature variation.

Nine hectares were dedicated to Brunello. Differences in vineyard age, soil and elevation supplied multiple expressions of Sangiovese Grosso. The 2015 vintage, released after five years of work, was the first managed throughout by Emiliano Falsini and Giancarlo Tommasi. The project united patient, traditional work with the possibility of carefully judged innovation.
