About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

CastelGiocondo draws on the varied exposures and soils of the estate in Montalcino. Galestro, clay and Pliocene sand contribute multiple layers to the Brunello, whose complex aromatic character is intended to evolve over time.

Vinification

For the 2021 vintage, the grapes underwent meticulous selection on sorting tables after reaching the winery. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, with frequent pumping over during the early stages.

Ageing

The wine matured in wood until it reached its final balance and harmony, followed by refinement in bottle.

Tasting profile

CastelGiocondo 2021 is a bright, deep ruby red. The intense, varied bouquet opens with sweet violet, dog rose and wild berries, followed by star anise and black and white pepper. Tertiary notes evoke tea leaf, tobacco leaf and coffee bean, while the close is lightly balsamic with liquorice. The palate is fresh, rounded and tannic; the mature, caressing tannins remain non-aggressive. The finish is exceptionally long and persistent.

Vintage notes

The dynamic 2021 season began with a rainy, mild winter and slightly early budding. A sharp temperature drop at the beginning of April briefly slowed shoot growth. Temperatures rose again from May, leading into a summer marked by strong day-to-night temperature variation and a prolonged period of intense heat. Mild conditions and low humidity left the fruit in perfect sanitary condition at harvest.
