Journey among Frescobaldi Cru wines

A cru is treated as a vineyard distinguished by position, exposure, history or geography. At Castello Nipozzano, Montesodi occupies a named plot at 400 metres that has long been regarded as the estate's best place for Sangiovese. First made in 1974 and reserved for suitable Sangiovese vintages, it became the first cru of the estate and the first Chianti Rufina cru. Mormoreto continues the family's nineteenth-century planting of Cabernet and Petit Verdot. Leonardo Frescobaldi created the cru in 1983, realising an ambition inherited from his ancestors. From 2013, a small amount of Sangiovese was included to reinforce elegance and the connection with Tuscan tradition.
