The beauty of estates in Tuscany: Tenuta Perano and Castello Nipozzano

Castello Nipozzano is a fortified estate dating from the year 1000 in the hills of Chianti Rufina, in the province of Florence. Its traditional name, interpreted as “without a well,” evokes the scarcity of water that favoured viticulture. In 1855, a Frescobaldi ancestor invested 1,000 florins in Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, varieties then unfamiliar in Tuscany. More than a century of cultivation prepared the way for Mormoreto. Visitors can tour the underground cellars holding the Frescobaldi family's private collections, taste the estate wines and stay in one of four rooms within the castle village.
