Tuscany’s Drought // La Siccità in Toscana

Spring frost passed over ground already depleted by a rainless period that had begun in December. With temperatures reaching approximately 45°C, the team sprayed a fine mist of water over the vineyards at night, when the leaves opened their pores. The treatment continued for sixty days and ran until dawn. By August, the lakes supplying the estate were nearly exhausted, even though the vines remained visibly green against the dry clay landscape.
