The 2024 Harvest at Donnafugata

Rainfall was limited through much of the 2024 growing season, while temperatures were frequently above seasonal averages. Rain during both halves of May was beneficial. In June and July, supplementary irrigation from estate reservoirs supported growth and development in many vineyards.

A network of sensors tracked essential microclimatic data. Artificial intelligence combined the observations with seven-to-ten-day weather forecasts, providing guidance for agronomic decisions and more efficient resource use.

Harvest in the higher hillside vineyards began on 22 July with Chardonnay and Pinot Nero for sparkling bases, around ten days earlier than usual. Each subsequent variety was picked according to its own ripening cycle. August rain helped the plots still awaiting harvest complete their growth and maturation. Picking ended in the first ten days of September, approximately two weeks earlier than in 2023. Yields were lower, but fruit quality met estate objectives.
