The harvest at Donnafugata: favorable weather conditions for an excellent vintage
Autumn and winter rain rebuilt the soil’s water reserves, while rain in May supported vegetative development. Summer remained mild apart from a brief heat event on 24–25 July; temperatures then returned to seasonal norms, allowing gradual, balanced ripening.
Harvest began at Contessa Entellina on 28 July with Chardonnay for sparkling-wine bases and fruit from younger, earlier-ripening vineyards. Picking then followed the successive maturity of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Grillo, Ansonica, Merlot, Syrah, Nero d’Avola, Catarratto and Nocera. Cabernet Sauvignon, harvested on 18 September, closed the season. Quantity matched the estate’s objectives and grape quality was judged excellent.
