About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The estate's 12-hectare vineyard lies right next to the Slovenian border. The soils are poor and stony, with loose marl, and give the grapes a mineral character associated with the Collio. Yields are limited, at 1 to 1.5 kg per vine.
Grapes
Tocai Friulano (70%) gives the wine structure and expresses its close connection to the terroir. Ribolla Gialla (15%) maintains a balanced acidity. Malvasia Istriana (15%), a native variety of the Collio region, adds its distinctive aroma.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at a high level of ripeness and pressed as whole bunches at the winery. Fermentation takes place in cement tanks. The producer believes cement adds an element of soul to the wine, unlike the sterility of stainless steel.
Ageing
The wine ages for 5 months in cement tanks. 20% of the Friulano matures in oak barrels of around 4 hL.
