About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The grapes grow at 600 m above sea level on the northern side of the volcano. The sandy soils are rich in volcanic ash, and the vines average 50 years of age.

Grapes

Nerello Mascalese leads the blend, complemented by other white and red Sicilian varieties.

Vinification

Some grapes are vinified as whole bunches. The wine undergoes 15 days of skin maceration and spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts in cement vats, without temperature control.

Ageing

The wine matures for 16 months in Slavonian oak barrels.

Tasting profile

It has a mineral character, notes of red fruit and silky tannins.

Label / history

The name “Versante Nord,” meaning “Northern Side,” refers to the location of the vineyards on the volcano’s northern side.
