About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Carricante comes from the Sciaranuova vineyard at Castiglione di Sicilia, 860 m above sea level. The well-exposed site has black lava-sand soils that are exceptionally rich in minerals and contain abundant large mineral elements. Woodland and more recent lava flows surround the vineyard.
The vines are trained on espaliers using spurred-cordon and Guyot pruning. Cultivation follows organic-agriculture criteria and SOStain® protocols. Wildflower ground cover increases organic matter and supports the soil’s microfauna. Vine health is managed with small quantities of sulphur and copper, while harmful insects are controlled through beneficial insects, mating disruption and natural treatments including zeolite, kaolin and plant extracts.
Grapes
100% Carricante.
Tasting profile
The wine has a very pale golden colour but considerable aromatic intensity, combining ripe-fruit aromas with abundant white-flower notes. The palate balances softness with a decisive flavour profile and easy drinkability. Lemon peel and green apple bring an authentic fruit character, while pronounced minerality extends the finish.
Label / history
The name recalls Etna’s historic eruption of 1614. Lasting ten years, it was the longest eruption recorded on the volcano and stopped at the boundary of the Sciaranuova vineyard. The wine was first produced in 2009.
