About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown according to environmentally sustainable practices on sunny vineyard slopes in Trapani, Sicily. The vineyards lie at 300 metres above sea level and are exposed to strong winds from the Mediterranean Sea. The mixed soils have a high proportion of clay.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand during the final ten days of September. Alcoholic fermentation lasts 10 days at a controlled temperature of 24 °C, followed by malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures for two months in American oak barriques, followed by six months in bottle before release.
Vintage notes
The 2020 growing season was warm and dry, with some drought but no extreme heat. Light winds maintained healthy conditions for the vines and harvest workers. Temperatures fell in late July, and heavy rain replenished groundwater and slowed ripening. A marked difference between daytime and night-time temperatures resulted in excellent acidity balanced by phenolic ripeness at harvest.
