About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from selected vineyards at the Gretole and Santedame estates, in the heart of Castellina in Chianti. The production area is Tuscany.
Grapes
80% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Colorino.
Vinification
The grapes are carefully selected during harvest. Alcoholic fermentation and maceration take place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats for approximately 20 days, allowing gentle extraction from the skins.
Ageing
The wine is aged for 36 months. Sangiovese spends 12 months in large Slavonian oak casks, while Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot mature in second-use barriques and tonneaux. Once assembled, the blend continues ageing in concrete vats.
Technical data
Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG, vintage 2021. The Gold Fever was released exclusively in 1,877 individually numbered 1.5 L magnums.
Tasting profile
Ruby red with garnet hues. Intense cherry, plum and violet lead into a more complex aromatic profile of eucalyptus, chocolate and black pepper. The palate has substantial structure, elegant soft tannins and supporting acidity. Ethereal aromas accompany a silky, broad and persistent structure.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18 °C. Pair with traditional Italian meat dishes.
Label / history
Riserva Ducale began in 1927 as a tribute to the wine-loving Duke of Aosta. Ruffino introduced Riserva Ducale Oro with the exceptional 1947 vintage, anticipating the later concept of Gran Selezione.
The 2021 The Gold Fever release is the first limited edition developed from ORObyRUFFINO, a creative platform devoted to designers’ interpretations of gold. It is dedicated to The Gold Fever, an artwork by Officine Saffi. Presented during Milano Design Week 2024, the work inspired the bottle’s handcrafted ceramic plate, finished with gold lustre. The release inaugurated a project in which an artwork from the ORObyRUFFINO collection serves as the inspiration for a new limited edition each year.
