Winter brought a period of reflection while vines were dormant and pruning residues were burned. The estate reviewed a year of substantial investment: cement tulips were added to support fermentation in cement, aging in wood and a brief return to cement before bottling; harvest machinery was upgraded; the aging room was enlarged; and the old cantina became additional warehouse space.

The work prepared Il Palazzone for increased production from two sources. The newly completed high-altitude vineyard was scheduled for planting the following month. Downhill, the adjoining Albatreti acquisition was incorporated and renamed Le Vigne Basse. Winter work there included pruning, vine management and refurbishment of drainage and access.

The nearly 5 hectares at Le Vigne Basse were expected to enter the cellar with the next harvest, almost doubling production capacity. Fruit from Il Palazzone 595 would require five years before becoming eligible for Brunello. The update concludes with the owners’ commitment to traditional Sangiovese and Brunello character, high-quality fruit and protection of the land.
