January News from Il Palazzone

The Kerns looked back on 2022, their first complete year as owners. An unusually hot and dry early summer complicated the growing season before conditions normalised in August. Both the quality and quantity of the harvest were considered encouraging, with the resulting Brunello expected to be released five years later.

The olive crop was small, while the resulting oil was released through Club 100 and in a limited number of additional bottles. After harvest, the vineyards were prepared for dormancy and winter pruning was scheduled for January and February.

Development of the new upper vineyard was due to begin in January. The objective was to place the young vines in the ground during 2023, with first grapes anticipated after approximately four years and the first wine after five or six years. The newsletter also marked the commercial release of the 2018 Brunello and introduced a planned quarterly schedule of estate updates.
