About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes originate in the Le Sondraie area of Tenuta La Garzaia, on the northern edge of the Bolgheri appellation. The vineyard lies at 10 m above sea level on soil containing abundant clay and limestone, together with small proportions of silt.
Grapes
The 2025 blend is 71% Fiano and 29% Viognier. Fiano contributes freshness, acidity, structure, salinity and mineral character, while the more aromatic Viognier supplies ripe-fruit and floral notes and gives the blend roundness.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand, cooled and gently pressed as whole clusters. Fermentation takes place partly in stainless-steel tanks and partly in 16 hL ceramic amphorae.
Ageing
The wine remains on its fine lees for six months, with regular bâtonnage to develop body and roundness.
Technical data
The 2025 wine has 13% alcohol. Recommended serving temperature is 8–10 °C.
Tasting profile
Straw yellow with greenish reflections. The bouquet combines white flowers, peach and apricot with citrus and herbal nuances. The palate is enveloping yet fresh, with good minerality and an elegant, persistent finish. The freshness and mineral character of Fiano balance the softer, rounder expression of Viognier.
Vintage notes
The 2025 growing season began with a humid, rainy spring that demanded sustained agronomic care to maintain vineyard health. July and August were particularly hot, with temperatures above 40 °C. Viognier was picked on 19 August, followed by Fiano over the next few days.
Label / history
Garzaia was conceived by winemaker Olga Fusari as the white wine of Tenuta La Garzaia in Bolgheri. The name evokes its place of origin: a “garzaia” is a nesting site for heron species.
