About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Negroamaro grows in the fertile, rich soils of the Salento peninsula, an area with a long winemaking tradition. The vines average 15 years of age and grow in a warm Mediterranean climate.
Vinification
The grapes are usually harvested by hand in late September. At the winery they are destemmed and gently pressed, then macerated and fermented in stainless steel vats at a controlled 20–22 °C for 10–15 days. Malolactic fermentation follows.
Ageing
The wine ages for at least 2 months in steel tanks, which preserves its freshness and vibrant varietal character. After bottling it matures a further 2 months in the winery's cellars.
Tasting profile
Pleasant fruit notes and a smooth, rounded style, with a pure expression of Puglian wine and an uplifting, lively character.
Label / history
Made by Leone de Castris, a winery in Puglia founded in 1665.
