About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The grapes grow in the hills of Magliano in Toscana, on calcareous tuff soils.

Vinification

Traditional fermentation in small 50 hl tanks, followed by a long maceration.

Ageing

The wine matures for 13–16 months in barriques, then spends several more months in bottle.

Tasting profile

Complex bouquet. The palate is warm, structured, smooth and velvety. The wine has excellent sensory qualities.

Label / history

Alicante was one of the first varieties planted at the Mantellassi estate. It is widely known as Garnacha in Spain and Grenache in France, and probably reached the hills around Magliano during the period of Spanish rule. The Mantellassi family first made "Querciolaia" from Alicante with the 1977 harvest.
