About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Barbera comes exclusively from estate-owned vineyards in the village of Serralunga d’Alba. The vines occupy middle and upper hillside positions at 300–350 metres, facing east and southwest. Clay and calcareous marl dominate the soils; their abundance of microelements contributes pronounced acidity, savoury character and structure.

Grapes

100% Barbera.

Vinification

Traditional fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Frequent pumping over encourages the extraction of colour and tannins, while skin contact lasts 12–15 days. Malolactic fermentation follows in oak and is completed before the end of winter.

Ageing

The wine matures for one year in medium and large oak barrels ranging from 20 to 140 hl. After bottling, it rests for another six months in the cellars.

Technical data

Alcohol: 14% vol. Average yield: 45 hl/ha. Available format: 0.75 L.

Tasting profile

Dark ruby red with purple highlights. The bouquet combines leather, black liquorice, coffee and blackberry. The palate opens with warmth, volume and body; fruit is integrated with soft tannins and lively acidity, leading to a long, savoury finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18°C with pasta, meat dishes, and fresh or medium-aged cheeses.
