About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Lagrein Riserva Furggl comes from selected individual vineyards in the municipality of Ora. The vines are grafted onto slow-growing rootstock and trained on wire trellises using the Guyot system. The soils combine limestone and porphyry gravel with sand and clay. Yield is 45 hl/ha.

Grapes

Lagrein. Alto Adige DOC.

Vinification

The grapes are destemmed immediately upon arrival. One day of cool maceration is used to develop the fruit character, followed by fermentation for approximately ten days at 28–30 °C. Pumping over and gentle pressure from below keep the must in regular contact with the skins, promoting color extraction while preserving fruit expression. The wine is then racked twice.

Ageing

Maturation comprises 12 months in French oak barriques and six months in stainless-steel tanks, followed by six months in bottle.

Tasting profile

Deep, compact garnet red with violet reflections. The concentrated, varietally expressive bouquet brings together violets, bitter chocolate, wild berries, licorice and vanilla. The palate is velvety and firmly structured, with soft tannins and a very long, persistent finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18 °C with hearty red-meat dishes, game or sharp cheeses. The wine can be enjoyed on release and has a cellaring potential of at least ten years.
