Valdarno di Sopra DOC joins the 2025 Tuscan previews

The Consorzio Valdarno di Sopra DOC scheduled a press presentation and tasting for 21 February 2025 at the auditorium of Il Borro in San Giustino Valdarno, closing the week of Tuscan wine previews. The initiative followed the first Valdarno di Sopra Day in May 2023, which gathered oenologists, agronomists, researchers and journalists to discuss territory, climate, vineyards and organic farming.

More than 100 Italian and international journalists from 15 countries registered, filling the available places. The event followed amendments to the production rules that placed greater emphasis on vineyard-designated wines and native varieties while extending the production area into the Florentine Valdarno identified by Cosimo III de’ Medici’s 1716 decree. Membership of the consortium and declarations for wines bearing a named vineyard had both increased.

The 2024 harvest was described as satisfactory in quality and volume, recovering from the adverse weather and disease pressure that reduced 2023 production by 40–50%. The programme included panels on regulation and change in the wine sector, and on vine resilience, sustainability and biodiversity in response to climate change. It also included the Premio Beatrice Torrini, a preview of the RAI documentary DiVine, Susan Hulme MW’s masterclass on the identity of Valdarno di Sopra wines, and Armando Castagno’s presentation of the 2021 and 2022 vintages.
