About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The vines face south and are planted at 5,000 vines per hectare in clay-loam soil containing iron-rich rock fragments. They are trained using the capovolto toscano system.

Grapes

100% Syrah.

Vinification

The grapes are mechanically harvested with careful selection from the first ten days of September. After gentle crushing and destemming, the must remains on the skins for three weeks with frequent pump-overs. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in glass-lined concrete vats at 30–32 °C. Malolactic fermentation is followed by a very short period in French-oak barriques.

Ageing

After the brief maturation in French-oak barriques, the wine receives at least six months of bottle ageing.

Tasting profile

Deep red tending toward purple. The aroma combines spice, cinnamon and pepper with very ripe forest berries. The palate is soft and velvety, full-structured, balanced, warm and intense, finishing sweetly and succulently with soft, elegant tannins.

Serving and pairing

The wine has an estimated ageing potential of 15–20 years.
