Didacus is the new Chardonnay dedicated to Diego Planeta

Didacus was created from the best bunches of the first Chardonnay vines planted beside Lake Arancio in 1985. The four-hectare planting had served as an early laboratory for Ulmo’s microvinification trials. Carlo Corino joined the project in 1989 and helped establish the wine’s identity; the first regular Chardonnay vintage followed in 1994.

Thirty years after the planting, the surviving original vines could still be individually identified. Their best bunches were selected by hand, pressed and fermented in barriques. The first Didacus release comprised 6,996 bottles from the 2014 vintage, considered especially favourable at Menfi and across Sicily.

The wine was dedicated to Diego Planeta. Its name was one of the forms used by his father Vito: Diego in ordinary life, Dieguzzo in intimate moments and Didacus when reprimanding childhood misbehaviour. Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta presented it as a passage between generations and an expression of tradition, creativity, courage and innovation.
