About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Sangiovese and Merlot come from estate vineyards in Radda in Chianti, planted at 5,000 vines per hectare and trained to Guyot. The Merlot vineyard was planted in 1999 and the Sangiovese vineyard in 1996. Harvest is manual: Merlot is picked from the last week of September, while Sangiovese follows from the first week of October. Selection is carried out in the vineyard.

Grapes

Sangiovese and Merlot; blend proportions are not specified.

Vinification

The two varieties are vinified separately. After selection, the grapes are destemmed and pressed. Alcoholic fermentation starts without inoculated selected yeasts and proceeds at 28–30°C. Fermentation and maceration take place in concrete tanks for about 35 days, with manual pump-overs and punch-downs.

Ageing

In December, the new wine is racked into 4 hl tonneaux, where malolactic fermentation takes place. Maturation lasts 18 months before bottling, followed by at least 12 months of bottle ageing prior to release.

Tasting profile

Brilliant ruby red. Red fruit, leather, vanilla, dried fruit and spices appear on both the nose and palate. The tannins are sweet and persistent.
