The Poggio Antico Journal – Ep. 3: Everything’s racing

Mild temperatures and frequent night rain accelerated vegetative growth. Shoot selection proceeded plant by plant, with shoot numbers adjusted to vigour and winter pruning. Young-vine shoots were tied to wires, grass was mown when wet ground prevented vineyard entry, and treatments were based on actual weather-related need. Replanting began at Madre, whose exposure, elevation and soil distinguish it from the rest of the estate. Different training systems and agronomic strategies will be compared for resilience, canopy-to-fruit balance and climate adaptation. Olive trees and Mediterranean scrub are being interplanted to improve biodiversity and soil vitality.
