The Poggio Antico Journal – Ep. 5: Of Waiting and First Times

Late-season work centred on targeted leaf removal, limited cluster adjustment and patient ripeness monitoring. Each plot was walked and tasted, while laboratory analysis and drone vigour maps helped track the Soil Units. Recent rain returned the vintage to a more traditional timetable and late leaf thinning reduced humidity risk. On 4 September, the estate harvested its first Chardonnay from a small plot planted in 2022 at 612 metres. The one-morning harvest began Poggio Antico’s first white-wine project. The estate also welcomed Anda e Bola after the horse’s Palio di Siena victory for owners Marcel van Poecke and Harry Westerman, linking the owner’s investment in the property with participation in local tradition.
