The Poggio Antico Journal – Ep. 6: The Benfinita
The benfinita—the celebration of a harvest completed well—took the whole team to the coast near Castiglione della Pescaia. The 2025 growing season moved from a rainy spring to heat, a cooler July and a very hot August. Another 150 millimetres of rain fell between the beginning and end of harvest, repeatedly interrupting picking. Despite these shifts, sound, ripe and fragrant grapes reached the cellar and fermentations proceeded smoothly. Some older vineyards yielded less, while younger plantings began to show balanced production and future potential. The season reinforced the need for constant observation and rapid adaptation as recent climate change has brought greater rainfall. The celebration recognised the vineyard and cellar team’s unity and sustained commitment.
