The Poggio Antico Journal – Ep. 7: Notes from November

With harvest complete, the estate began bottling the 2022 Riserva and Vigna I Poggi for release no earlier than 2027. The 2025 wines had been racked, removed from gross lees and placed into ageing. Heat spikes in May and August complicated the season, but the vineyards held their balance and the young wines showed a solid foundation. At Benvenuto Brunello, feedback for Brunello and Vigna I Poggi supported the estate’s intention to express altitude rather than manufacture difference for its own sake. The 2019, 2020 and emerging 2021 Vigna I Poggi vintages show a continuous stylistic thread. Despite a global slowdown in red wine, the estate continues to prioritise place, patience and long-term consistency.
