About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The 2022 blend draws on two Tuscan estates: Tenuta Poggio Casciano near Florence and Tenuta La Solatìa near Monteriggioni, close to Siena. The vineyards lie at elevations of 290–450 metres above sea level. Their soils contain abundant clay and limestone with small proportions of silt.

Grapes

Blend proportions vary by vintage. The latest published vintage, 2022, comprises 51% Sangiovese, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot and 9% Petit Verdot.

Vinification

Alcoholic fermentation and maceration take place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks for approximately 14 days. Periodic pump-overs and délestage assist extraction. Malolactic fermentation is completed in stainless steel.

Ageing

The wine matures for approximately 12 months in French oak barriques. It then rests briefly in stainless-steel tanks before bottling and receives additional bottle ageing.

Technical data

The 2022 vintage has 14.5% alcohol by volume. Recommended serving temperature is 18°C.

Tasting profile

The 2022 wine is an intense ruby red. Its intense, intriguing bouquet combines blackberry and developed floral aromas, evolving toward cinnamon and clove. The palate is rich and persistent, with soft tannins and an imposing structure.

Vintage notes

Very hot conditions in 2022 supported excellent grape ripening and resulted in a slightly earlier harvest.

Label / history

Modus takes its name from the Latin word associated with “method” and “measure,” expressing the idea of balance among its component varieties. First produced in 1997, it was Ruffino’s first Supertuscan. Wine Spectator included the 2007 vintage in its 2010 Top 100 Wines.
