About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Riserva is made only in the best years and in limited quantities. Parcels are kept separate during harvest and maturation, allowing the site that performs best in a particular year to be selected. The small production means that Riserva is often a single-vineyard wine.
In cooler, wetter years, the strongest candidates are generally vineyards at 300–400 m, where the soils are looser, stonier and richer in organic matter. In hot, dry years, lower parcels at 180–250 m are preferred: their clay- and galestro-rich soils help preserve freshness and balance as the grapes ripen.
The 2020 came from one parcel and a single cask selected during maturation as the clearest expression of the estate's style that year.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Ageing
At the end of Brunello's maturation, the finest cask is selected and remains in wood for a further 6–12 months. The 2020 technical data specifies 36 months in 30 hl oak casks. It was bottled in March 2024.
Technical data
Alcohol: 13.5%.
Tasting profile
The 2020 is ethereal, austere and elegant. Fruit is joined by spicy nuances, while freshness and fragrance frame soft tannins and an exceptionally long finish. Its length signals strong potential for longevity.
