About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Rosso is drawn from the same estate vineyards capable of producing Brunello di Montalcino. The vines average 20–25 years of age and grow at 200–400 m. Clay dominates the soil texture, with a strong presence of galestro in the lower sections. At higher elevations, the soils become increasingly rich in stones and organic matter.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese.

Vinification

Vinification takes place in truncated-conical wooden vats and concrete vats and lasts for at least one month.

Ageing

The wine matures for approximately 24 months in 30 hl Slavonian oak casks. Only after this period are selected casks reclassified as Rosso di Montalcino. The 2022 was bottled in February 2025.

Technical data

Alcohol: 14%.

Tasting profile

The 2022 has substantial structure and a clear acidic line that brings finesse, elegance and energy.

Vintage notes

The 2022 season was marked by severe drought beginning in the preceding winter and continuing through spring and the first part of summer, accompanied by well-above-average temperatures. Heavy rain on 2–3 August allowed the grapes to ripen normally while retaining moderate sugar levels. Advanced vine development brought harvest forward to 25 August; picking ended on 23 September. Further heavy rain in late August and mid-September had little effect on harvest timing or grape maturity.
