Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow on hills at 1,300–1,700 metres above sea level.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand, then fermented and macerated in stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine matures for five months in French oak barrels, followed by seven months in large oak barrels.
Tasting profile
Deep ruby in colour, with a generous bouquet of ripe red fruit.
Label / history
The high-altitude vineyards inspired the name “Alto”, meaning “high”. The name Tenuta Rapitalà translates from Arabic as “river of Allah”. The estate was founded in 1971 by Count Bernard Hugonis della Gatiné, who rebuilt its cellars and winery after their near-total destruction in the Belice Valley earthquake.
