About this wine

Grapes

The blend comprises equal parts Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Sangiovese represents the winery’s roots, while Cabernet Sauvignon provides a modern element.

Vinification

The grapes are sorted by hand, and the two varieties are vinified separately before blending.

Ageing

Each variety matures separately in French oak barrels for 9–13 months. After blending, the wine rests for a further three months in 35 hl barrels, followed by one year in bottle.

Label / history

Created by Italo Zingarelli and his younger son Sergio, Roccato was first released in 1988. Its conception reflects the winery’s development since its foundation in 1973, combining roots in the Chianti Classico wine region with an openness to innovation.
