About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Catarratto Lucido comes from a 2 ha vineyard in western Sicily, in the province of Trapani. The vines are over 15 years old and grow on level sandy-loam soil. They are single-Guyot trained at 3,500 plants per hectare, with a yield of 6 t/ha.
Grapes
100% Catarratto Lucido, a variant distinguished from common Catarratto by a more delicate, fresher expression and a less pronounced bitter finish. The name Lucido, or Extra Lucido, refers to the berry’s glossy appearance, caused by a smaller amount of the whitish waxy bloom known as pruina.
Vinification
Harvest is manual during the first week of September. After cooling and rigorous manual selection, the clusters are gently pressed. The must settles for 48 hours at low temperature, after which the clear fraction ferments with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Sulphite use is kept to a minimum.
Ageing
Seven months in stainless-steel tanks on fine lees.
Technical data
The 2024 wine has 5.35 g/L acidity, pH 3.14, 5.4 g/L residual sugar and 45 mg/L total SO₂. Production was 33,000 bottles.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 10–12 °C. Pair with Sicilian dishes such as sarde a beccafico, or with crustacean- and shellfish-based first courses such as mussel soup.
